The Jug of Punch is yet another song that I transcribed from a
The Clancy Brothers recording and which we sang a lot in the
Idle Fellows. In fact it was one of the very earliest songs in our repertoire. This song is very Irish in its glorification of alcohol. It's philosophy reminds one of one of the verses in the Rubiat of Omar Kyahm
(a book of verse, a glass of wine and thou) "What more diversion can a man desire, than to sit him down by a good turf fire. Upon his knee a pretty wench, aye, and on the table a jug of punch."
I later sang and recorded it together
Dr. Rosteck and it is included in our
We're Only Here For The Beer! - Light. It can also be found in
100 Irish Ballads Volume 1.
