According to the Internet source given below, Clarice Mayne was an English music hall and variety theatre singer and performer born in London.
She played the "principal girl" in pantomimes for Francis Laidler, among others, and became a well-know music hall performer. Later, she played the "principal boy" roles. Once established, she sang in the variety theatre act called Clarice Mayne and That whereby she was This and That was her husband, the composer James W. Tate who she married in 1912. Their best known song is probably A Broken Doll (words: Frank Clifford Harris; music: her husband).. They first appeared together at "The Oxford" in 1906. Mayne also played the principal boy in a number of Tate's pantomimes throughout Britain beginning in World War I.
She and Tate had appeared together in the 1916 film Nursie! Nursie!and again in 1936 when she played Emily Hackitt in the film Educated Evans.
She died in London.
