Lime Juice Tub is one of my favourite Australian folk-songs. It has ten amusing verses and a real hooligan of a chorus. Because of its length I sing it at a rare old pace with the chorus coming every second verse which I belt out at the top of my lungs.
The song is all about hardy sheep-shearers deriding newcomers from Britain on their frailties, inabilities and general uselessness in the outback. The end of each chorus is a jibe, threat, promise or prophecy (take your pick) that, "We'll send you home in a lime-juice tub".
This song is yet another one taken from the pages of
The Bushwackers Australian Song Book.
