Purchasing information Notice for leaders/bass players
I was always a great Monty Sunshine fan and one of my most prized possessions is an LP (NJT 500) "Chris Barber Plays The Music of
Clarence Williams (also generally credited as co-composer) and
Spencer Williams". On it can be heard a fantastic version of "Wild Cat Blues" played by
Monty Sunshine and for my taste Monty's version is the definitive, better even than
Sidney Bechet himself (as heard on Riverside RLP 149 and recorded in 1947).
I transcribed if from the LP back in 1981 but never managed to get the fiddly bits right and have simply scored them as trillers. Over the years I tried without success to find someone to play it. I would just love to add a bass accompaniment! Who knows, perhaps some recorder surfer out there in cyberspace will give it a try!
Since writing the above in 1998, two surfers made enquiries almost within the same week, which encouraged me to finally publish the transcription in April 2002.
