According to the Internet source given below, Harry von Tilzer was an American composer of popular music. He was born in Detroit, Michigan under the name Harry Gummbinsky which he shortened to Harry Gumm before taking the name Harry von Tilzer. Using his new name he ran away joining a travelling circus at age 14, where he played piano and calliope writing new tunes and incidental music for the shows. After selling My Old New Hampshire Home (1898) to a publisher for $15, and decided to become a professional songwriter after seeing this title become a national hit selling over 2 million copies of the sheet music. He was a partner in the Shapiro Bernstein Publishing Company. His 1900 number A Bird In A Gilded Cage (1900) became one of the biggest hits of the age. He formed his own publishing company in 1902 being joined by his younger brother Albert von Tilzer.
