Nora Bayes was a popular American entertainer born Leonora Goldberg to a Jewish family in Joliet, Illinois. 18-years old, she was performing professionally in vaudeville in Chicago. After touring from San Francisco, California to New York she became a star both on vaudeville and Broadway. She was an accomplished singer, comedian and actress. After her marriage to singer/songwriter Jack Norworth in 1908 they toured together and were credited for collaborating on a number of tunes, including their huge hit Shine On, Harvest Moon which the pair debuted in Florenz Ziegfeld's Follies of 1908. Later she recorded with the Victor Talking Machine Company and Columbia Records. She died in New York.
