Will you go lassie go? (also known as "Wild Mountain Thyme" or "Purple Heather") - an Irish/Scottish folk song is, for me, a
Nina Kreft song par excellence. Whenever she sang it, I had little if any part in it except to gaze on admiringly.
The song itself is an adaptation by Francis McPeake (1885 - 1971) from the Scottish "The Braes of Balquhither" (words: Robert Tannahill (1774 - 1810); music:
Robert Archibald Smith (1780 - 1829).
It is of a laddie wooing a lassie asking whether she will join him at a castle he built for her. Poignantly, what her answer was - we know not!
