We Are Climbing Jacob's Ladder
Last updated: 22.04.24
We Are Climbing Jacob's Ladder (also known as Jacob's Ladder) is an African American slave spiritual based in part on the Biblical story of Jacob's Ladder.
I learned and sang the bass part of an SATB choral arrangement when a member of DOKU-Chor. Arranged by Cornelius Neitsch in 2000 it has 6 verses 4 of which differ from most other versions.
In general there is "Children of the cross!" instead of "Soldier of the cross!.
The calls are:
Verse 3: "To the Lord we send our prayer"
Verse 4: "Sister come and climb the Ladder"
Verse 5: "Brother come and climb the Ladder"
Verse 6: "We are climbing into heaven"
The arrangement can be seen in the Neitsch Folio.
