Length: approx. 4 mins.
The Suffragette obviously celebrates that famous movement to establish universal suffrage to include the most important half of the human species. It is interesting to reflect that in the home of free, equal voting rights were not achieved until Mississippi finally ratified the Nineteenth Amendment on March 22, 1984 (in Big Brother's Year!) after having rejected it on March 29, 1920.
As to the waltz itself it is a pleasant enough piece in a quasi-sonata form of AABBACCA with a 4-bar introduction whereby the melodies nicely contrast. In this adaptation for recorder sextet the descant and treble voices have to carefully co-ordinate their tonguing to achieve the desired effect in passages running between the registers. To add to the fun, they are invited to grab a bass for the final bar!
