Purchasing information Notice for leaders/bass players
Length: approx. 4 mins.
This early Scott composition, one of the three rags written while he was still working at Dumar's Music Store, celebrates his friend a certain Miss Daisey N. Pierce to whom the rag is dedicated. It is within the bounds of possibility that she is also the charming, smiling fascinator gracing the cover of the original sheet music. What better way could the then 17-year old composer pay court! The rag itself is a mature and jolly affair in AABBACCDD form. This adaptation for recorder ranges through all registers resulting in some tedious bar-counting, particularly for the descant and 1st tenor voices. In fact the descant is fully unemployed for the DD-strains! If instead of just trying to appear interested and intelligent whilst waiting out the final 32 bars, the descant player may feel inclined or be persuaded to help out the 2nd tenor and bass with the divisi in bars 88, 91 and 92 in the interests of purism.
