Alphonse A. Verges  (1874-1924)

According to the Internet source given below, Alphonse A. Verges was an American ragtime composer born in New Orleans of French descent. The eldest of four musically talented brothers he is known to have worked both as a musician in the employ of a piano company and as a butcher in the family market business. His most famous piece Whoa! You Heiffer (1904) is widely considered one of the best of all the New Orleans rags and has been recorded even into recent times.
