According to the Internet source given below, Bransby Williams [Bransby William Pharez] ) was a British actor, comedian and monologist born in Hackney, London, monikered "The Irving of the music halls".
He was variously a tea taster and wallpaper designer as an amateur actor before turning professional doing impersonations of
Dan Leno,
Gus Elen,
Joe Elvin,
Albert Chevalier and other music hall stars in working men's clubs. In 1896 he first appeared at
The London Music Hall, Shoreditch impersonating contemporary actors including Henry Irving. In 1897 Williams first created a variety of characters, including many from the works of Dickens and performed monologues, recitations and sketches.
He went to have a hugely successful career as an actor-manager over many decades appearing/performing in Royal Command Performances, pantomimes, variety, plays, film and television. He also toured throughout the UK, Australia and Canada.
