Johann Christian Bach  (1735-1782)
According to The New Penguin Dictionary of Music, Johann Christian Bach was a German composer, 18th child of Johann Sebastian Bach; studied under his father and under his brother Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. Went in 1756 to Italy, in 1762 to London where he remained eventually dying there. He was known as the "English Bach"; influenced Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on his visit (aged 8) to London. Works include Italian operas, English songs, about 40 piano concertos and other orchestral works, church music in Latin and English.
