Premier is a straightforward, cheerful rousing march written in a fairly conventional form. It opens with a 4-bar introduction followed by 16-bar AABB sections themselves interspersed with an 8-bar passage all in the key of C-major. This is followed by a trio comprised of CCDCC 16-bar sections written in F-major. The triumphant C section has a marked vocal character, something that most remarkably has been planned to be taken up by the players of the Vegesack dart team Le Premeur for use it as its club anthem. Quite a renaissance for a more the 90-year old ragtime era march!
Premier was published by Jerome H. Remick & Co., New York & Detroit, USA.
A tempo of 180 crotchets/min. is suggested.
