Length: approx. 2¼ mins.
College Chaps is a lively and merry old march that fairly jogs along. Its form is AABCCCC with a 4-bar introduction and a 12-bar interlude between the B- and C-strains whereby the AB- and C-strains are written in the major keys of F and Bb respectively. In this adaptation for recorder sextet, the treble voice has most of the running except for the 12-bar interlude which is taken by the 1st tenor.
The cover of the original sheet music shows a pair of very smart and dapper pipe-smoking chaps in discussion whilst a bulldog with studded-collar follows the conversation intently
A tempo of 180 crotchets/min. is suggested.
College Chaps was published by F. B. Haviland Publishing Co. Inc., New York, USA.
