Purchasing information Notice for leaders/bass players
Length: approx. 3½ mins. Sounds best if the 1st tenor and bass are doubled.
Russian Rag was originally introduced on the American stage by Mlle. Rhea, the charming dancer shown on the cover original sheet music. It was a million seller which encouraged the publisher to persuade Cobb to write a sequel which he duly did its title being
New Russian Rag (1923). It has a sonata form of AABBACCA with a 4-bar introduction, the sonata theme boasting the famous prelude. A performer's delight, the long runs between the voices being a special delectation. Precise co-ordination between the treble and 1st tenor is an absolute must, not a piece for the faint-hearted!
Russian Rag was published by
Will Rossiter, Chicago, Illinois, USA.
A tempo of 84 crotchets/min. is suggested.
