Bud Rag is pretty rag two-step in which, in this adaptation for recorder quintet, both the descant and treble voices share the tinkling melodies. Its form is ABBACC with a 4-bar introduction and two interludes each of 4- and 8-bars between the AC- and CC strains respectively. Whether this rag was used to advertise Budweiser beer or just refers to a pal is sheer conjecture. The charming cover of the original sheet music does not shed further light in this matter either. Here a pretty, smiling long-haired lass is shown through a hole in a piece of sacking.
Bud Rag was published by Sam Fox Pub. Co., Cleveland, Ohio, USA.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
