Old Crow Rag shares the same form of ABBACCB with a 4-bar introduction which Botsford used in his
The Boomerang Rag (1916) and others whereby here the ABBA- and CCB-strains were written in the major key of G and C respectively. The cover of the original sheet music facetiously shows a bespectacled old crow with a scarf around his throat, a crutch under each wing and his tired old claws comforted by carpet slippers. He perches on a naked bough and surveys a field of snow. As to the rag itself, it is a bright and breezy affair and, dare it be said, flighty enough to remind that old crow of his youthful years when he aviated without recourse to prostheses!
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
