Length: approx. 3¾ mins. Sounds best with 1st tenor and bass doubled.
Honey Rag is a bright and cheerful two-step guaranteed to induce toe-tapping. Its form is of a 4-bar introduction followed by ABACC strains. The A and B strains are each of 16 bars in the key of C-major whilst the C strain has 32 bars written in F-major. In this recorder adaptation, the treble voice has the melody throughout while all other voices are fully occupied. No bar-counting here!
The cover of the original sheet music depicts predictably enough an opened honey jar lying on its side and spilling out its golden contents over the edge of a table.
Honey Rag was published by Jerome H. Remick & Co., New York & Detroit, USA.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
There are also treble solo and trio versions of this item.
