Geoff Grainger, a founder-member of the Bremen Recorder Touring Company, was born on 24th May 1941 in Worcester, England and educated at the Worcester Royal Grammar School. He served in the Royal Navy between 1957 and 1968 in many countries throughout the world. Shortly after leaving the navy he emigrated to Germany in the employ of a major electronics company and has been self-employed since 1986.
He started playing the recorder at the behest of a shipmate, a certain REA Jim Randall, who felt, correctly it must be added, that it was a much better instrument on which to learn music than an ocarina. He has been involved in a number of recorder groups in the Bremen area since 1979 and finally got to grips with his chosen instrument under the guidance of
Stephan Schrader in 1985-6.
