Grace Marie Bolen (1883-1974)

According to Nora Hulse in her Cakewalks, Two Steps and Rags Grace Marie Bolen was an American composer born into a wealthy Kansas City family. Her first composition The Fair (1898) was published when she was just 15-years old. Her The Black Diamond (1899) and The Smoky Topaz (1901) were widely known and are still recorded today. She died in Longview, Texas where she was known as "Mama Grace" and had taught piano and voice for some twenty years.
