As gleaned from the Internet sources given below, Piers Adams is an English recorder player widely regarded as amongst world's greatest. His playing has recently been described as "almost legendary - it simply has to be heard to be believed" (Musical Opinion) and as "beyond virtuosity into the realms of improbability" (Classic CD).
Piers Adams has performed and recorded with, amongst others, the Philharmonia, the BBC Symphony and Concert Orchestras, the City of London Sinfonia, the English Sinfonia and the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. In addition to the major baroque works he has commissioned and premiered concertos by David Bedford, Christopher Gander and Vladislav Shoot.
He has worked closely with the English recorder-maker Michael Dawson to develop a range of instruments suitable for the grand romantic approach.
Piers Adams' new group, Red Priest, is rapidly becoming established as the UK's most dynamic, theatrical and outrageously different baroque ensemble, performing music of the 16th to 18th centuries with wild gypsy abandon and the widest possible tonal palette. Formed in 1997, Red Priest gives over 50 performances in its first two seasons throughout the British Isles, Europe and America, including concerts for the York, Birmingham and Galway Early Music Festivals, the San Francisco Early Music Society and the Dutch Early Music Network. The group's debut CD, Priest on the Run has just been released on Upbeat Classics. Work is underway too on Red Priest's Electric Baroque Show.
