Slade Murray (1859-1913)
Last updated: 17.03.25
p_murrays.jpgIt is surprising that so little is known about this performer considering the large number of items located. All that can presently (February 2025) be gleaned about Slade Murray from sheet music covers and by Internet searching is that he was an English music hall entertainer born in London who has been featured on 20 works published between 1884 and 1898.
According to the Internet source given below, before taking to the Halls in 1883, he worked as a printer and ship store foreman as well as performing in amateur concerts. After 1889, he worked for long periods in Australia and later New Zealand.
His portrait on the left is taken from one of his greatedt successes, Far, Far Away (1884) music by David G. Day, words by George Anthony and published by Francis, Day & Hunter, London W.C.2, England.

Surfers are welcome to contribute any further information about this performer.
