The Memphis Rag is another typically very pleasant, straight-forward Wenrich composition in AABBACC form well within the grasp of the beginner. This recorder adaptation predominately for tenors and basses is of course quite sonorous and easy on the ear. The A and B strains both have the characteristic tootling/whistling style melodies found in so many of Wenrich's compositions. All-in-all a jolly, well-rounded piece.
The Memphis Rag was published by McKinley Music Co., Chicago & New York, USA.
A tempo of 78 crotchets/min. is suggested.
There are also tenor solo and quintet versions of this item.
