Length: approx. 3 mins.
Aunt Jane is a bright and breezy march which fairly bowls along. Its form is of a 4-bar introduction followed by ABACC strains. The A and B strains are each of 16 bars in the key of Bb-major whilst the C strain has 32 bars written in Eb-major. The treble voice has most of the melodic line in this recorder adaptation, whilst the tenor alternates between close harmony with the treble and supporting rhythm with the bass. A real ensemble piece!
The cover of the original sheet music depicts a complacent presumably Aunt Jane briskly strolling decked out with parasol, holding a light suitcase and leading a diminutive be-bowed canine of unascertainable ancestry.
Aunt Jane was published by A Hospe Co., Omaha, Nebraska, USA.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
There is also a quintet version of this item.
