Of Rags to Burn Trebor Jay Tichenor in his That American Rag: The Story of Ragtime from Coast to Coast writes that the medley is a loose compilation of early Kansas/Missouri folk-ragtime strains. Several are rather eccentric and idiosyncratic, and must reflect much of the ragtime playing of earlier years. This adaptation for recorder sextet is fairly demanding but happily the melodies are more-or-less equally shared by the descant, treble and 1st tenor voices. The basses however need plenty of stamina and puff to stay the course of this long composition. A great ensemble piece indeed!
Rags to Burn was published by J.W. Jenkins' Sons Music Co., Kansas City, Missouri, USA.
A tempo of 150 crotchets/min. crotchets/min. is suggested.
