Please do not be put off by the title, there is nothing at all piffling about Piffle Rag. It is a fine rousing rag with some nice touches. Its form is AABBACCA with a 4-bar introduction whereby the AB- and C-strains are written in the major keys of G and C respectively.
In this adaptation for recorder sextet, the melodies are carried by the upper three voices in chords whilst the 2nd tenor has the pleasure of alternating to descant for a few bars in the A-strain - a nice touch!
Piffle Rag was published by Mentel Bros. Publishing Co., Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
