has some nice catchy folksy strains of course spiced with snatches of Stephen Collins Foster
's famous "Old Folks at Home"
. The front cover of the original sheet music shows a cliché ridden Swanee scene which includes a gap-toothed banjo player sat on a packing case before a riverboat stern-wheeler alongside a quay where cotton bales await stowage onboard. Its form is AABBACCC with a 4-bar introduction and a 16-bar interlude preceding each of the final two C-strains whereby the AABBA- and CCCC- strains are in the major keys of C and F respectively. The melodies are brought out particularly well in this all tenor/bass affair and the 1st tenor has the honour of having them all from start to finish.
