According to the Internet source given below, Charles Leslie Johnson was an American composer of popular music; born in Kansas City where he spent all his life. He started composing very young one of his first successes being ScandalousThompson. He was one of the most prolific ragtime composers having written more than 30 titles under his own name or one of several nom de plumes the most used of which being Raymond Birch. He used this strategy for two main reasons; one because he feared that a large number of works under one name would reflect on their quality and sameness, the other being that having sold his own publishing business to Harold Rossiter Music Co., he was restrained from re-entering publishing for one year.
