"Way down upon the Swanee River" is a fine Stephen Collins Foster song that I first heard in my childhood. The version I sing today can be found in Lieder, Songs und Gospels 1.It's way over the top on sentimentality but it's pleasant enough to sing. Lieder, Songs und Gospels Vol. 1 has a neat German translation of the lyrics by Elisabeth Laurenz.
