Purchasing information Notice for leaders/bass players
Length: approx. 3¼ mins.
Some Jazz is a fine fox trot with three distinct themes. Its form is AABBACC with a 4-bar introduction and a 4-bar interlude between A and CC strains. The A strain is heavily dotted and characterised by close harmony in the melody voices set off against walking bass. The B-strain motive is appropriately a bass affair with ornamented descending minims leading into more walking bass passages. The final C-strain is more-or-less a classic rag standard with syncopated quavers in the dominance.
The cover of the original sheet music amusingly depicts two black-faced bellhops in line-ahead job-sharing the task of playing a saxophone. The leader confines himself to puffing whilst his comrade behind does the fingering passing his arms under his leader's. That's the jazz!
