Walkin' on de Rainbow Road is a fine cakewalk with some syncopation. Its form is a straightforward AAAACCDD with a 4-bar introduction. The D-strain is of 14 bars whilst the other strains have the more common 16-bar length. Trebor Jay Tichenor in his That American Rag: The Story of Ragtime from Coast to Coast suggests that this composition could be a companion a companion to Ben Harney's Cakewalk in the Sky published in the same year. Indeed the covers of both items of sheet music show happy cakewalkers dancing in heavenly realms.
Walkin' on de Rainbow Road was published by M.D. Swisher, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
