Length: approx. 3¾ mins. Sounds best if the 1st tenor is doubled.
Despite its title there is nothing ramshackle (except perhaps the dilapidated shack shown on the cover of the original sheet music) about
Ramshackle Rag. On the contrary it is a well crafted and balance composition. Its form is AABBACCC form with an 8-bar introduction and an 8-bar interlude between the final CC-strains whereby the AB- and C-strains are written in the major keys of G and C respectively. The A-strain is characterised by dialogue between the basses and the melody voices, the B-strain is a beautiful treble solo whilst all join in the harmonies in the C-strain. A great ensemble piece for recorder quintet.
