Town Talk is indeed as its subtitle claims, a classic in ragtime. It was apparently featured by one Hirschel Hendler -"The Poet of the Piano" over the Orpheum Circuit. As to the composition itself it is in ABACDD form characterised by swooping chords rising and falling as ragged as it gets. As transcribed for the recorder it is a very demanding piece being in the recorder players' favourite major keys of Eb, Ab and Db and the chords require exquisite tonguing to get the desired snappy effect. A real ensemble piece to delight audiences and performers alike.
Town Talk was published by Bickhardt's Song Shop, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
