Length: approx. 4 mins. Sounds best if the bass is doubled.
Levee Revels, much recorded, is something of a landmark composition. Its form is basically AABBCCDD with a 6-bar introduction and a 2-bar interlude between the B- and C- strains whereby the AABB- and CCDCDC-strains are written in the major keys of G and C respectively. Unusually, the A- B- strains are of 18- and 20-bars respectively. This adaptation for recorder quintet is long overdue. The quirky, folksy, and tootling melodies, especially of the A- and C-strains lend themselves particularly well to the recorder. Pure joy for performers and audiences alike!
Levee Revels was published by M. Witmark and Sons, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, USA.
A tempo of 190 crotchets/min. is suggested.
