The Sycamore firmly shows Joplin's intentions for introducing ragtime music to a wider range of instruments to whit: "BAND - ORCHESTRA - MANDOLIN - GUITAR - ETC" - more than justification enough for adapting this work for recorder! This happy piece should be performed as a smart march in a light-hearted manner.
The Sycamore was dedicated to a certain Miss Minnie L. Montgomery, published by Will Rossiter, Chicago, Illinois, USA, and a piano roll was also produced.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested
This recorder adaptation is respectfully dedicated to Dr Oliver Rosteck and the Semper Ludens Recorder Quartet, Bremen, Germany.
