Length: approx. 4¾ mins. Sounds best with doubled 1st tenor. There are four sections using the major keys B-flat, B-flat, E-flat and E-flat.
Actually, The Favorite had been sold to the publisher in 1900 but was not published until four years later. Incidentally, it was the same publisher who turned down that extraordinary success Maple Leaf Rag (1899). The first tenor will have a lot of fun playing the triplets in the first section. In the original, Joplin firmly marked FINE at the end of the fourth section indicating that he had already determined the form of ragtime music. Unauthorised repeats were not encouraged!
The Favorite was published by A.W. Perry & Sons' Music Co., Sedalia, Missouri, USA, and a piano roll was produced.
