I was introduced to this fascinating work by a certain Bernard, a friend of Katrin Eickhorst-Squire, during a
workshop whilst on tour with the
Bremen Recorder Touring Company in New Zealand in April, 2001. It contains twenty stampedes, relatively short pieces, of all manner of creatures on this earth. They include: Elephants, Warthogs, Weasels, Sloths, Baa Lambs, Koalas, Holy Monks and Incubi, Angels, Bogong Moths, Funeral Directors (yes, really!!), Bacteria, Lemmings, Hippopotamuses, Jellyfish, Octopuses, Rabbits, Holy Nuns (why not?!?!), Happy Shepherdesses, Snails and last but not least, Termites.
I find these to be real fun pieces and intend to have a lot of merriment with them in coming year, tours and concerts, they are ideal for livening up a programme. We played the Stampede of the Hippopotamuses (Leaving their home in the river to thunder in blind panic through the bush) and the Jellyfish (Washing up on the shore to melt in the sun) in the all too brief workshop. Thanks a million, Bernard!
