Canned Corn is a fine rag in AABBACDCDC form with a 4-bar introduction whereby the AB- and CD-strains are written in the major keys of C and F respectively.
This appears to be a homage to that great same-named American culinary delight that launched a thousand recipes. In this adaptation for recorder quintet the tinkling A- and B-strains are shared by the treble and 1st tenor and are nicely accentuated by the rhythm section. The thumping C-strain leads into the D-strain characterised by dialogue between the upper and lower voices. All-in-all are a jolly romp of a rag!
Canned Corn was published by Bell Music Company, Buffalo, New York, USA.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
