With Bunny Hug Rag both publisher and composer were maximising commercial success by possible maximum exposure to the world of dance with no less than three subtitles! It is however a happy and jolly rag in AABBACC form with a 4-bar introduction and 4- and 12-bar interludes separating the AC and CC-strains respectively. The treble and 1st tenor voices share the melody line almost equally in this adaptation for recorder quintet. The cover of the original sheet music aptly shows a lucky girl high-trotting in close embrace with a huge white representative of the Leporidae family, a mutant oversize Oryctolagus cuniculus.
Bunny Hug Rag was published by Chas. E. Roat Music Co. Ltd., Battle Creek, Michigan, USA.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
