Length: approx. 2 mins.
Kansas City Blues is a delightful early blues which despite being awash with two-handed chords is a composition of some delicacy with charming touches. Its form is ABACDA with a 4-bar introduction whereby the AC- and BD-strains are each of 16- and an unusual 13-bars length the whole being written in the key of F-major. The 2nd and 3rd A-strains are developments of the first A-strain. This transcription for recorder septet has been made from a manuscript deposited on 14th, October 1914 in the Library of Congress (Call Number M31.B). This like other Bowman compositions is a fun piece and should be taken light-heartedly. The adaptation faithfully reproduces the original manuscript in that it is completely devoid of any kind of ornamentation, dynamics, tempo instructions or musical terms. Improvisation is clearly intended!
A tempo of 180 crotchets/min. is suggested.
