Virgil Thomson  (1896-1989)

According to The Oxford Companion to Music, Virgil Thomson is an American composer, pupil of N.Boulanger in Paris; also organist and noted critic. He wrote operas, "Symphony on a Hymn Tune", cello concerto, portraits (piano and violin), songs in English and French, stage and film music.
