According to The New Penguin Dictionary of Music, Francis Poulenc was a French composer, member of the former group of "six"; influenced by Erik Satie; composed in a transparent, mellifluous, sometimes witty style. Also pianist, noted particularly as accompanist to Pierre Bernac. Works include piano concerto, 2 piano concerts, concerto for organ with strings and kettledrums; piano solos, songs, Mass, opera and ballets.
