This work completely blew me away when getting to grips with this Ockeghem masterpiece. A fitting companion to
Arvo Pärt's
Magnificat für gemischten Chor. Both works gave me initial difficulties as, generally, being the only bass in this modest ensemble, the
Kito Chor. I was so inspired however, that I temporarily dropped my ragtime activities to adapt the work for a recorder quartet. My comments are given in
Gloria (Fom Missa Mi-Mi) as they comply equally well to both the recorder and vocal ensembles.
In the
Kito Chor, we did not get around to performing the whole work - we simply did the incredibly beautiful
Gloria in Excelcis Deo movement. Marvelous stuff indeed!
