75 Irish songs collected, adapted, written, and sung by the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem. Arranged for piano and guitar by Robert DeCormier, compiled and edited by Joy Graeme with a foreword by Pete Hamill.
My Remarks:
This is an absolute "must" in any Clancy Brothers fan's library. It is a superb book, richly illustrated with an excellent foreword by Peter Hamill, ample discography and is the source of many songs in my repertoire. A rare treasure is that it has a decent piano score allowing easy arrangements for larger groups. I have just one minor quibble in that the lyrics are often missing interesting verses found in other songbooks.
I note with wry amusement that certain English and Scottish songs such as
The Leaving of Liverpool,
The Bonnie Lass of Fyvie,
The Earl of Murray,
The Butcher Boy,
MacPherson's Lament and
The Calton Weaver (Nancy Whisky) are included as Irish songs by these big-hearted gentlemen. I forgive 'em!
