p_kendallm.jpgAccording to the Internet source given below, Marie Kendall [Mary Ann Florence Holyome] was a British music hall comedian and actress born in Bethnal Green, London.
She began her 50+ year career aged five when appearing onstage in music halls as "Baby Chester". At 15 she was principal boy in Aladdin and Dandini in Cinderella. She toured England, Wales and Germany as a male impersonator and achieved success in 1893 on turning to female roles and singing I'm One of the Girls for over 16 weeks in Camden Town. Thereafter, Kendall performed at major venues in London, playing in pantomimes as well as singing Cockney songs in the best music halls.
In the 1920s she toured Australia and 1931, she was an original star of the Vintage Variety Company. She performed into her 60s and retired in 1939.
One of her famous songs, Just Like the Ivy (1902 - A.J. Mills: words; Harry Castling: music) is given in 60 Old-Time Variety Songs. She sang this in the 1934 film, Say it With Flowers.
Marie Kendall died in Clapham, London.
