The Entertainer's Rag was specifically written to be performed in cutting competitions i.e. contests to determine the best pianist and the front cover of the proclaims that it was featured by Lloyd & Roberts. This splendid rag leaves nothing out - a real joy. Its form is complex with 16-, 20- and 12-bar strains interspersed with 4- and 8-bar interludes. The melodies are as ragged as they get ranging over all registers such that this adaptation for recorder requires at times 3 descants! The interludes comprise two patriotic melodies cleverly set off against each other. Entertainment pure!
The Entertainer's Rag was published by Pacific Coast Music Co., Oakland, California, USA.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
