Abe Olman was an American songwriter and composer of popular music born in Cincinnati. He was very active in the American Society ASCAP and was its director between 1946 and 1956. As a co-founder of the Songwriters Hall of Fame he is honoured there by having its highest award, The Abe Olman Award, named after him. His most successful songs were Down Among The Sheltering Palms (1915) and Oh Johnny, Oh! (1917). Of ragtime interest is his Red Onion Rag (1912) which was one of around half-a-dozen of such pieces. He died in Rancho Mirage, California.
