I was introduced to These Coal Town Days, written by Jez Lowe, when I joined the Tyneside Maritime Chorus in 2011. This is a melancholy song reflecting the love/hate relationship of the miner and his family towards his place of work, means of livelihood and their fear for the future when the mine that they so much detest closes.
