I first heard "Tanzen und Springen", an ancient German madrigal by Leo Hassler (1601), sung by the The King's Singers
on their LP Die King's Singers singen deutsche Volkslieder
. In Germany this song can generally be found as a standard in mixed choirs. The version I play and sing can be found in
Lieder, Songs und Gospels 3
and it is a wonderful piece for the concertina with its extremely rapid chord changes.
The song itself is a laudatio to the very joys of life, dancing, hopping, singing, chatting the young ladies up, etc., it is all in there!
